Tie Up Downtown in June: Boothbay Harbor’s Spectacular Start to Summer

June in Boothbay Harbor is surprisingly...spectacular! While the air still carries a crisp chill and boaters are busy finishing up brightwork and testing engines, June has traditionally been a prelude to the height of summer. But thanks in part to the tireless efforts of the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce and other community based groups, June has blossomed into a happening time to visit. We are proud to say that the town buzzes with lively events that complement its charming shops, distinct dining options, and thriving artistic community – all set against the stunning backdrop of Maine’s coastal beauty.

It’s the perfect month to tie up downtown and immerse yourself in all that our seaside haven has to offer before the busy season kicks in. Stepping outside the gate at the Boothbay Harbor Marina places you at the very heart of the action in the center of town. Here you will find yourself surrounded by fabulous restaurants serving up local fare, art galleries brimming with creativity, and quaint boutiques. To top it off, June’s calendar is packed with incredible events that will make you happy you made the trip!

Can’t-Miss Events in June

• Concerts at the Opera House – This historic 1894 venue offers incredible live performances throughout the month. It’s rich history and welcoming old time bar upstairs make it a beloved gathering place for both locals and visitors. With a dedication to keeping tickets affordable, it continues to be a vibrant hub for live performances and shared experiences.

• Boothbay Farmers Market (Thursdays 9-noon) – Savor the flavors of Maine at this weekly market, perfect for boaters stocking up on fresh, local treats. It’s a Thursday morning ritual for us and we are happy if you want to tag along.

• The Claw Down (June 12) – A celebration made for seafood lovers and culinary enthusiasts alike where lobster takes center stage. Skilled local chefs face off in an exciting competition for the best lobster bite. A must attend event for foodies.

• Boothbay Harbor Lobster Boat Races (June 14) – Maine Lobster Boat Races have a rich history dating back to the early 1900s. Over time these informal races evolved into a beloved tradition, offering lobstermen a chance to showcase their skills and enjoy some friendly competition. Boothbay Harbor hosts the first race of the season.

• Fishin’ for Fashion (June 14) – This one-of-a-kind runway show where maritime heritage meets high style is not to be missed! Celebrate the creativity, craftsmanship, and coastal inspiration as local designers transform maritime essentials into stunning fashion statements. A spectacular fusion of sea and style!

• Coastal Strolls at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens – Discover over 300 acres of breathtaking gardens and natural landscapes, each offering a unique experience. Wander through the Native Butterfly House, immerse yourself in the wonder of the children’s garden, or stroll among the vibrant blooms of the rhododendron and perennial garden. Whether you are seeking serenity or inspiration, there’s a garden waiting to be explored.

• Boothbay Harbor Windjammer Days (June 22 – 28) – Windjammer Days signals the start of summer in the Boothbay region – a cherished tradition to reunite with friends, family, and neighbors after a long winter. It’s a chance to support local businesses, extend a warm welcome to visitors, and pay tribute to our maritime heritage, celebrating the vital role it continues to play in our community’s daily life. You can even join in one of the boat parades and become part of the fun!

• Live Music by the Ruckus at Mine Oyster (June 27 & 28) – Our favorite NYC band is back in the harbor! Known for their electrifying performances and incredible talent, this funk band brings the perfect mix of energy, passion, and showmanship that will have you dancing all night long right next door to the marina.
